5th Grade Math & Science - Mrs. James
Hello!
My name is Melisa James, and I'll be teaching 5th Grade math and science at Verda Elementary this year. I've come back HOME with more than 25 years of teaching experience.
I graduated from Northwestern State University in 1995 with a B.A. in Elementary Education and began my career at Verda. I taught grades 1st, 2nd, and 4th, over the course of 20 years. After a brief hiatus from the classroom at the end of my 20th year of service, I returned to teaching. I taught 3rd-5th grade at Atlanta High School until the Winn Parish School Board abruptly closed the school. It is now at this point in my life that I have returned to begin my 21st year at Verda Elementary and my 28th year as a professional educator. I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 30 years, Chad James. We make our home in Atlanta, LA, where Chad serves as pastor of Atlanta Baptist Church. We have 2 adult sons, Andy and Landry, who are both students at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
I try my very best to not only teach the curriculum but also to help mold and shape those little lives into fine young men and women. Each new school year is just as exciting as the last!
